“ANOTHER PIECE OF THE PUZZLE: HARRIET TUBMAN HOMESITE DISCOVERY”
DR. JULIE SCHABLITSKY, CHIEF ARCHAEOLOGIST
& SARAH JANESKO, CONSULTANT ARCHAEOLOGIST (MDOT SHA)
In November 2021, archaeologists from MDOT SHA, led by Dr. Schablitsky and assisted by Ms. Janesko, made an important discovery in the Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge on the Eastern Shore’s – the site of the cabin of Ben Ross, Sr., who had been enslaved at Thompson Farm with his family, including his daughter Araminta Ross – known around the world as crusading abolitionist Harriet Tubman.
Come hear the rest of the story as Dr. Schablitsky and Ms. Janesko share their process, techniques, and findings – including a display of artifacts from this historic site – and make themselves available to answer questions from the audience.
